Ecuador (1860-Present)

The flag of Ecuador was adopted on 26 September 1860, around a year before neighbouring Colombia adopted its nearly identical flag. Both flags were based on the first flag of Gran Colombia, which was itself based on the original flag of Venezuela.

I’ve just discovered that Ecuador is so named because the full name is “República del Ecuador” which means “Republic of the Equator.” That’s why they’ve always sounded so familiar.
